Loaves and Fishes
Our parish community participates in the Loaves and Fishes program, whose mission is to provide nutritious meals to the hungry of the Twin City Metro area in an atmosphere of hospitality at site locations where the need is greatest. St. Leonard’s has combined efforts with St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church and St. James Lutheran Church to prepare and serve meals on the 2nd Tuesday of every month, at the St. Stephen’s site at 2211 Clinton Avenue South. Assistance is needed with food preparation (2:30-5:15 pm), serving the meal (5:30-6:30 pm), and clean up (6:30-7:30 pm). Please contact the parish at 612-825-5811 for more information.
TRUST (Towards Renewed Unity in Service Together)
TRUST is an ecumenical coalition of 18 South Minneapolis churches to provide service to our service area’s residents. TRUST has been providing human services in the south Minneapolis area since it was formally started on October 4, 1970. St. Leonard’s has been a participating member church for many years. TRUST programs include a Chore Service program, Meals-on-Wheels, a parish nursing program, prayer shawl ministry, grief support groups, school partners, Trusty salers, and youth ambassadors. St. Leonard’s current representative on the TRUST council is Karen Virnig.
Food Shelf Collection
Our parish has an ongoing food collection, which is delivered to the Sabathani Community Center’s Family Resources Program. This food shelf distributes 588,000 pounds of food to 22,000 families on an annual basis. The Sabathani Community Center is located at 310 East 38th Street, just two blocks from our parish.
In addition, a good will offering is invited at our weekly fellowship. These proceeds are donated to Second Harvest Heartland Food Bank program.
